so the ram went in no problem. The config was changed as follows:

changed:

queue_directory = /var/ramdisk/0queue

to:

queue_directory = /var/ramdisk/group1/0queue
  • group 1 server 0-3
  • group 2 server 4-6
  • group 3 server 7,8

changed /etc/rc.d/rc.local

from:

# create ramdisk
echo making ram disk
/sbin/mke2fs -m0 /dev/ram 500000

to:

# create ramdisk
echo making ram disk
/sbin/mke2fs -m0 /dev/ram0 525000
/sbin/mke2fs -m0 /dev/ram1 525000
/sbin/mke2fs -m0 /dev/ram2 525000

from:

# mount ramdisk
echo mounting ram disk
mount /dev/ram /var/ramdisk

to:

# mount ramdisk
echo mounting ram disk
mount /dev/ram0 /var/ramdisk/group1
mount /dev/ram1 /var/ramdisk/group2
mount /dev/ram2 /var/ramdisk/group3

changed:

# make the queue dirs
# as a note.  at any given time, utilization of the ramdisk was never more then 10%
echo making queue dir
mkdir /var/ramdisk/0queue
mkdir /var/ramdisk/1queue
mkdir /var/ramdisk/2queue
mkdir /var/ramdisk/3queue
mkdir /var/ramdisk/4queue
