Me:
I will not work with a company that provides service to a company that does stuff. I want to work for a company that does stuff.
- No professional services.
- No consulting
- No mercenaries
- Must own cradle to grave.
I will work for a company that writes it's own software, and believes that that is an integral part of being successful.
I want to work for a company that doesn't blink blankly at me when I say these things:
1. Triple bottom line
2. OODA loop
3. Excellence
They should be able to write a 1500 word essay on each topic explaining what it is and how they do it, without hesitation.
Security is baked in day one.
No design sees the light of day until all stakeholders have participated.
They start with Best Practices and refine from there.
Straight man:
- LOL.. I think you might need to start this company
Me:
Definitely not, I want to get back to doing what IT was supposed to do on day one: serve the business, not "self justify".
I should not have to defend an IT budget.
The success of the company should be the proof that we spend enough on IT.
They must care about excellence. They must define it, they must evolve it, they must do it. Not in one part of the business, but in everything they do.
Straight man:
- How many companies are on your shortlist?
Me:
Part of my problem is that if you are a customer of the company I work for now you are, by definition, not the company I'm looking for. You think a consulting company can help you do the hard work of knowing your own business, including knowing how IT will make your business go.
Small is ok.
Not sexy is ok.
