Subject: RE:[CASE XXX] Chat: How do I determine how much storage is being used by my EBS snapshots?

Hi,

Unfortunately at this time, there isn’t a way to obtain the size of a single EBS volume snapshot using the AWS EC2 Console or CLI. The information currently available on a AWS EC2 console or returned by CLI (aws ec2 describe-snapshots) is the size of the volume. As you know, the size of the EBS volume is not the same as size of the snapshot [1] but it is the closest information available at this time for a single volume.

There is a feature within the “Billing & Cost Management” page, where you are able to view “AWS Usage Reports” and view summarized EC2 and EBS usage reports You are also able to download the report in either XML or CSV format and view “Usage Value” related to general snapshot S3 space usage. This will give you the average space used by all snapshots, and it should be helpful to estimate how much space is being used by S3.

While I can see the feature to be able to view size of snapshot has been requested by few customers, I do not have visibility into implementation to provide you with an ETA. You can monitor the link [2] for new features released by AWS, as we provide updates at the link.

I hope the information is helpful for your concerns but please let us know if you have any concerns.
