CMP Use Cases

CMP - Cloud Management Platform

I had an interesting discussion with Dennis at lunch about "use cases" for CMPs.

According to some docs he's read the big use cases are:

• Governance and Compliance
• Cloud Brokerage
• Migration facilities
• Automated Self Server

He want to know my opinion; Which one is the most important, order them by importance.

so I did:

Governance and Compliance Cloud Brokerage migration facilities Automated Self Server

and my argument was , to which role in the client does each use cases speak, and what sort of power does that person have.

Additionally why does that person care about, what is their prime motivation?

• Governance and Compliance -> CEO : Risk, who is going to jail when there is a breach, or it's down, or some such thing.
• Cloud Brokerage -> CFO: Cost
• migration facilities -> IT Manager: Project timelines aka how soon can the it manaager "gett 'er done"
• Automated Self Server -> IT consumers: they don't want to wait weeks for that new server for their app.

It's just a thought, a way of thinking about it. It's _just_ my perspective.
