I've always thought that there is an opportunity for aboriginals in Internet technology. Lay a big fat Internet pipe , then training online, employment online. No relocation. New skills. Empowerment. Global recognition. I feel like that big Internet pipe would need to be federally funded.

It still wouldn't address high fuel and food costs, as well as high service costs in small isolated communities, which are the same for all small isolated communities.

Communities in Nlfd have similar challenges but have also seen communities disbanded when the gov decides it can't provide services and when populations drop too low due to outmigration.

yes, someone just told me about that. i didn't know.

Not saying it's good Per se but it's a reality. Nlfd started it in 50s in notre dame bay. Tons of small settlements on islands that couldn't be provided w schools or health care etc. Interesting that Internet not helping those smaller places today. I suspect that unless you are a relatively elite player internet access is far from the most important issue affecting community viability
