Job Summary:

Scalar Decisions is currently looking for a Cloud Engineer to join our Managed Services Cloud Operations/Architecture team.

As our ideal candidate, you will possess the cloud technical expertise, particularly in AWS and Azure (SoftLayer would be an asset as well), in order to architect, engineer, and operationalize projects as fully managed solutions. Your previous experience at a service provider or large enterprise will enable us to implement industry best practices to meet our customers’ SLAs. Your appetite to learn will ensure we keep up with latest practices, ideas, and trends in the public cloud space.

Core Responsibilities:

Participate in customer-facing and internal projects, assisting or leading the technical engineering, and operationalization of a managed cloud solution Architect, engineer, and implement partial/complete managed cloud solutions using modern configuration management tools and practices (e.g., Puppet, Terraform, Jenkins)

Troubleshoot performance, redundancy, configuration, and application incidents to resolution Maintain and continuously improve the existing fully managed cloud solutions Assist and/or implement a customer’s regular change requests Receive escalations from the operations team and other groups within the managed services department during business and non-business hours Escalation to the vendor support, when required, to ensure SLAs are met Cross-train and document new solutions, tools, and practices to team members, to the operations team, and other groups within managed services Conduct new product/service evaluations for internal publication to management for possible adoption Follow the latest industry trends, practices, and ideas through training, certifications, conferences, and research Report current project status and discuss technical ideas to management Requirements:

10+ years of systems administration experience in a service provider or large enterprise 4+ years of systems engineering experience in a service provider or large enterprise 1+ years of public cloud experience with PRODUCTION workloads At least 1 certification from a major public cloud vendor Experience in at least 1 configuration management system (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform, etc.) Experience in at least 1 revision control system Solid understanding of DNS, TCP/UDP, layer 2 networking Good understanding of the LAMP/LEMP or WIMP stack Experience with directory services (e.g., AD, LDAP) Some fluency of a programming or scripting language (e.g., Perl, Python, Bash, Powershell) Experience in a multi-tenant managed hosting or managed services department Demonstrated experience using an ITIL based ticketing systems Demonstrated Root Cause Correct Action analysis, report generation, and presentation to customers Demonstrated project timeline management skills Demonstrated customer facing support experience Must have strong communication skills and the ability to articulate task management, priorities, and issues
