Back yard

  • considering getting rid of what I think is a Prunus Cerasifera (often called purple-leaf plum).

Planter

Considering enlarging the garden, need to consider racoons and squirrels.

2012 Season

Lessons taught from this year: put the Zucchini on the end so it can "over flow, without shading plants nearby.

Lessons Learned this year: pinch the armpits of the tomato, this keeps the tomatoes from getting to leggy, it limits grow , but ensures that tomatoes that do grow , grow well. And I have no shortage of flowers ( as of july ).

Potted Basil is growing like gang-busters from last year's seed.

2013 Season

  • Half Cherry Tomatos / Half Plum Tomatoes
    • Did much more nipping of flowers and get better results, could nip more flowers.
  • Kale
  • Strawberry - Lots of fruit for one plant, could do more.
  • cauliflower - let it go to see, need to harvest sooner.
  • snap peas - Need to figure out how to get better yield here. Few plants were productive.
  • Pumpkin / Squash and pumpkin squash
    • Good Growth
    • Good crop
    • Took WAY too much ground cover.
    • Next year: Grow up, sturdy trellis needed.
  • Habenero peppers
    • Three plants,
    • great yeild
    • good flavour
    • great heat
    • Great colour , brilliant orangy.
    • Some fruit at end of year were still green, some ripened, but many stayed green.
  • Sage
    • Good crop
  • Eggplant
    • Good crop, some grew to good size,
    • Many didn't get big, Colour was purple but I felt like they were green.

Herbs:

  • sage
  • mint
  • thyme , several potted plant did ok, they seem a bit more delicate. In the ground samples did well. - at the end of the year everything was dug up due to Deck expansion

2014 Season

Plan

  • get deck setup with planters / Pots - done.
    • This is an opportunity to create "full sun" positions.
    • consider also: drainage , and root depth.
  • tomatos as before: 50/50 cherry + Plum
  • Eggplant - none -
  • Some sort of squash - grow up-wards.

Herbs:

  • lavender - one potted, some in raise boxes, from seedling.
  • sage - planted in raised boxes from seedling.
  • Thyme - planted in a planted from seedling
